Everton boss David Moyes remains convinced England will win through to the round of 16 in the World Cup.
Moyes remains confident that England can still come good, suggesting that a seemingly minor change could yield significant improvement.
"He has talented players and is a top manager," said Moyes in his Sunday Times column. "This is still a tournament where no team have truly stood out, and if England can just find that magic something, they might yet go far.
"Often, in a situation like this, it's a case of stumbling across a solution you didn't expect. Sometimes it is a player you didn't foresee as being important who goes into the team and suddenly improves the blend or lifts the players around him.
"It could be Michael Carrick, it could be Jermain Defoe, it could be putting Steven Gerrard up front with Wayne Rooney."
