Everton boss Moyes: Houllier helped us land Gueye

Everton boss David Moyes admits Aston Villa counterpart Gerard Houllier had a say in his deal for Magaye Gueye.

Gueye has been something of an unknown since his £1million signing from Strasbourg last June.

But Everton boss Moyes' injury list is so long that he handed the 20-year-old French striker 40 minutes off the bench on Saturday - and he responded with a hugely promising debut.

Moyes confessed: "Gerard told me to sign Magaye last summer when he wasn't in a job and the lad would have featured before now if it had not been for a hamstring injury."
