Everton boss David Moyes has hopes of buying in January.
Two years have passed since Everton last paid a significant transfer fee for a new recruit and the Scot accepts that he is going to have to sniff around for bargains.
He said: "I am hoping to try and get some business done over January, I really am. I am going to try to add players but I am always saying 'but'.
"And we don't just need any old willy-nilly centre-forward. What we need is something of quality and something that is probably going to cost a lot of money.
"If anyone is sitting there thinking we are going to be bringing in things that are going to make a big difference - that is the hard bit. But we will try to do that.""We don't have much cash to spend for what we need.
