Everton boss David Moyes feels ground-sharing with Liverpool should be revisited.
Liverpool have turned down proposals for a ground share scheme, but Moyes believes it represents a sensible option for both clubs.
He said: "I don't think it's a bad idea to have a soccer city - with stadium, hotels, eating places, bars, good car parks, trams running in and out of the city. But I'd rather we had our own home.
"I don't think they see the need to join up with Everton as much as we do. There are two great traditions here, but it would give us the chance to compete as a city with Manchester.
"We're trying to keep ourselves competitive and make progress, but we need a new stadium to bring in more revenue.
"We might be in a situation where we have to sell, although I hope we won't be because we want to keep all our great players - that is how you become a great team."
