Everton boss David Moyes is keen for Ross Barkley to avoid comparisons with Manchester United star Wayne Rooney.
Midfield whizkid Barkley, 17, has already been called up for England's Under-21s after last week's eye-catching league debut against QPR.
Moyes said: "Ross is a mature lad, a quiet boy who is similar in that way to a young Wayne.
"But the boy has had injury problems for two years and has a long way to go.
"Ross has amazing natural talent but there will be times this season when we take him out of the firing line."
