Everton boss David Moyes is backing Leighton Baines for a World Cup slot.

His outstanding form has made him hot favourite to go to South Africa as back-up left-back to Ashley Cole for England.

Baines played all 90 minutes of the 3-1 friendly win over Egypt in March.

Moyes said: "He should have left the Egypt game knowing he played well, the others trust him, and that he deserved to be in the team.

"The confidence he'd get from going to the World Cup would be really good for us."
