Everton boss Dave Moyes is already thinking of handing Louis Saha a new contract.
The French striker only arrived in the summer from Manchester United. But Moyes believes the 30-year-old is well equipped to extend his Everton career well beyond his initial 18-month contract.
Moyes said: "One of my policies is not to bring in players too late in their career, but with Louis I felt we had to.
"He was still just about the right side of 30 and I thought for a couple of years we'd get the benefit if he keeps fit. He'd have been a £15million striker if fit, so we'd never have been able to bring him here.
"It was a gamble because he was injured when we signed him, but I wasn't taking a chance on his ability, only his fitness.
"I hope we will get him back to the best he was before. We've a good medical team here, which has helped him - and maybe he feels under less pressure than before.
"Now he's been through the worst of his injuries he feels he has something to prove.
"We know he's quick and he's got dynamite in his feet when he shoots. If we get him into positions, he'll keep scoring."
