Everton boss David Moyes admits finishing above Liverpool this season is a huge motivation for him.
The tricky task of trying to overtake their neighbours from across Stanley Park remains as daunting as ever.
Moyes admitted: "I've found over my 10 years here that it's been difficult to climb above Liverpool.
"Alex Ferguson at Manchester United had been trying to make his mark above Liverpool, and only last year they went one better in league titles over the years.
"So it's not just been Everton trying to do that, there's been other clubs because Liverpool have been such an institution in football.
"There's a driving force in me to do that, like Fergie, but the game we had to win was the FA Cup semi-final and we didn't - so that's where the disappointment comes for us. We're fighting to hang in there."
