Everton will resist all bids for midfielder James McCarthy this summer.
The Liverpool Echo says reports surfaced in recent days that new Old Trafford boss Louis van Gaal was planning a surprise raid for the Republic of Ireland international but the Blues will not be entertaining any approaches for the 23-year-old who was developed by Roberto Martinez at Wigan Athletic and followed the Catalan to Goodison Park last September.
Everton boss Martinez remains keen on a move for Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley but will not be sacrificing McCarthy to clinch any deal.
