Everton boss Roberto Martinez has slammed the summer transfer window.
Chelsea have now walked away from the negotiating table over a deal for John Stones.
"John is a great footballer but he is a better human being," said Martinez. "He is an incredible ambassador for Everton and I know he has been put in a position that is very unfair. I had situations of players that could not handle playing in a process like that. This keeps happening.
"I'm watching other clubs have the same issue. Other clubs have players that can't handle it and others that can? Don't you think that my passion towards it is based on the examples we are getting every day in every dressing room in the league?
"Don't think I'm strong with this because of John. He is just another victim of this stupid system and John needs protection. All the young players that are doing well at their clubs need protection. It is something that needs to be solved."
