Everton boss Roberto Martinez says defender Phil Jagielka will be fit for the World Cup.

Everton's captain played 30 minutes in a behind closed doors game against Walsall earlier this week. He has been struggling with a hamstring injury.

Martinez said: "If you want to be really selfish from the national team point of view you would rather your players played between 1500 and 2000 minutes. You don't want them playing over 3000 minutes.

"That's where the levels start to fatigue and they find seasons very long, so if you could choose you would choose that situation. Jags is refreshed and fully fit and we are hoping he will have a big influence in the final two games."
