Everton boss Roberto Martinez hopes Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan replaces him with a manager who bases his game on a similar style.

Whelan hopes to have a new man in place by the end of the week, with Steve McClaren and Owen Coyle the front runners.

And new Everton boss Martinez said: "I hope the philosophy is something that can be embraced. In many ways, it represents what Wigan has become."
