Everton boss Roberto Martinez has hinted Leighton Baines deserves to be the best paid at the club.
Martinez feels it is time for Baines to get his dues.
"He is vital for us and the future of the club so we now have to show that with a contract. That is important.
"Talks will open and it is about making sure he knows how much we want him and appreciate him.
"Keeping him was more important than bringing in a new player.'
"He is one of the best players in that position in world football so to have that continuity you don't gamble on someone coming in and settling in quickly."
