Everton boss Roberto Martinez has no regrets missing out on former Leeds United fullback Sam Byram.
Byram joined West Ham United this week.
Martinez said: “As on many occasions, we were the first to identify a special footballer in the Championship.
“We went through the correct procedures but in the end it wasn't the right move for Sam and he wasn't the right player for us with the squad that we have.
“That's the end of the matter really.
“I'm pleased that we were at the forefront of identifying a young player with terrific potential but it wasn't the right move for all parties."
