Everton boss Roberto Martinez is pleased with what he's seen from Mason Holgate.

The former Barnsley defender has tasted Everton U21 action over the past week.

Martinez told evertonfc.com: “In the mini-derby, I felt that he was himself and I thought he showed what he can be.

“But I always measure the personality of a young player when he starts his first week and it was terrific to see him walk into the dressing room and be able to be himself and train in the manner that he did.

“He's only 18, he's a very talented defender and I can see a fantastic future for him at Everton."
