Everton boss Roberto Martinez says Ross Barkley has facets in his game similar to Paul Gascoigne and Ronald Koeman.
Barkley was again called into Roy Hodgson's England squad yesterday.
"Yes there are comparisons with Gazza in his balance and the way he drives with the ball, but we need to be careful with comparisons," he said.
"He's got flashes of the outstanding footballers in many things he does.
"His first touch is of real, real quality.
"The way he turns, the way he drives with the ball, you can find many outstanding attributes like some of the greats.
"The way he can strike the ball from outside the box is of the highest level.
"He's got the switch of play of Ronald Koeman, if you want.
"He's very, very good at many things, and now is the time he is going to be mastering something and become himself.
"In that sense, he's unique - and that's why we should let Ross Barkley be Ross Barkley."
