Everton boss Koeman: With a bit more luck we'd have beat Brighton

Everton boss Ronald Koeman has said that his sides luck this season will change if they show the same character that they did during their 1-1 draw against Brighton on Sunday.

Veteran Wayne Rooney managed to coolly slot home a penalty for the Toffees during the last minute of the game after Anthony Knockeart scored during the 82nd minute of the game for Brighton.

Everton pushed on following Rooney's conversion and Brighton keeper Mat Ryan pulled off an impressive save off Kevin Mirallas's shot to deny Koeman's men the three points.

Koeman told the club's website after the game: "I said to the players, 'if you show this belief and commitment in every game, you will get the luck on your side,' and that is how we need to continue.

"We showed great character from the beginning of the game – and even when we were in difficult situations.

"In the last 15 minutes of the first half we lost a bit of control in the game and even after going 1-0 down… where maybe there was a bit of a lack of confidence and we were perhaps afraid to lose the game… we showed great character to come back.

"With a bit more luck we could have won it – but that was not for today, maybe next week."
