Everton boss Ronald Koeman sees his team building as a two-year project.

He admits it is a battle to attract players when Champions League clubs are also chasing them.

Koeman said: “Of course if you're trying to get a player in and you get competition from the big clubs and they play Champions League, of course, most of the time you lose.

“Normally the big teams have more chance to win.

“What we need to do at Everton is the big project. I need two seasons really to get what I think can be the best team for Everton.

“To really get that balance in your team you need more than one pre-season and more than one transfer window."
