Everton boss Ronald Koeman can't guarantee James McCarthy staying.
The midfielder has been linked with Celtic.
"I don't know. I did not speak with James about his situation," he said ahead of Sunday's clash against Manchester United.
"For a long time he wasn't available for the team.
"Even last week he had only two training sessions and this week… yes, he did train and is available for the weekend.
"About the future of James, the future of other players, new players… that is not the focus I need to show at this moment."
