Everton boss backing Yakubu against Middlesbrough

Everton boss Dave Moyes is backing Yakubu Aiyegbeni to get the scoresheet today against Middlesbrough after scoring in their Carling Cup defeat of Sheffield Wednesday last week.

"Their goals (James McFadden's and Yakubu's) was encouraging," Moyes told evertonTV.

"It was great that we scored three goals. It's not easy to score goals against anyone these days and it was important that we didn't concede any.

"We want to have our strikers scoring goals and Faddy got two and Yak got one which certainly helps us."

Although Andrew Johnson is a doubt for the clash with the side from the Riverside, Moyes believes the England striker will hit the back the net sooner rather than later.

"Andy has had chances this season and he will get more chances to score," he continued.

"We need his versatility and he can play several different roles."
