Everton are set to beat Newcastle United for Wigan Athletic left-back Leighton Baines.

The Evening Chronicle says Everton have put £4m down on the table with another £500,000 on appearances and another £500,000 if they qualify for the Champions League.

Baines was actually pictured watching Everton in action this week and, despite being big pals of United's fellow England Under-21 internationals Steven Taylor and James Milner, it looks as though he is heading for Goodison.
