Everton battling Spurs for Newcastle attacker Wijnaldum

Everton face a crowded field in the race for Newcastle attacker Gini Wijnaldum.

The Mail on Sunday says Toffees boss Ronald Koeman is keen to sign Newcastle's attacking midfielder Wijnaldum and is determined to beat Tottenham to his signature.

Newcastle have not received an offer for the Dutchman, 25, who they value at £27million but Koeman will try to construct a deal with Everton owner Farhad Moshiri that could also include signing another of his countrymen, Tim Krul. The goalkeeper is recovering from a knee injury and has been made available by Newcastle.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino also admires Wijnaldum, who scored 11 goals last season despite relegation. But Spurs chairman Daniel Levy considers £25m as over-priced for a player who cost £13m from Anderlecht a year ago.
