Everton battling Celtic for Bothroyd

Everton are threatening Celtic's Bosman hopes for departing Cardiff City striker Jay Bothroyd.

The Scottish Sun says England cap Bothroyd is a free agent after being released by Cardiff City.

Hoops boss Neil Lennon is hard on his trail but Goodison gaffer David Moyes is keen too.

Bothroyd - who scored 20 goals this season - is also interesting Newcastle United, Fulham, Sunderland and Birmingham.

Bothroyd, 28, started his career with Arsenal and has had spells with Coventry City, Perugia, Charlton and Wolves as well as loan stints at Charlton and Stoke.

He won his only England cap against France last year.
