Everton boss Roberto Martinez is chasing Barcelona fullback Martin Montoya.
The People says Martinez has joined the race to take Montoya on loan in January.
The 23-year-old Spaniard has been told he is not part of Luis Enrique's plans at the Nou Camp.
Barcelona are still negotiating their forthcoming transfer ban with FIFA and the fact that, for now at least, they will be unable to add to their squad in January has delayed Montoya's departure.
But the Catalan giants are open to letting Montoya leave on loan with the option of a permanent move for around £6.5million at the end of the season.
