Everton assistant manager Steve Round was delighted when Yakubu netted his first goal in his first match back from a serious Achilles injury.
The Nigerian was on target as the Toffees accounted for Hull City 4-0 in their Carling Cup third round clash at KC Stadium on Wednesday night and Round was happy to see things finally turning for the striker.
"He is a 20-goals-a-season striker. He has had nine months out and I have seen how hard he has worked to come back," he said.
"It has been a long road for him so the whole team are delighted for him to get a goal."
Yakubu was substituted at half-time but Round said it was more a precautionary measure.
"He has got a slight thigh strain," he added.
"We want him to train tomorrow and be ready for Saturday so we took him off as a precaution."
The Toffees take on Portsmouth at Fratton Park in the Premier League on Saturday.
