LA Galaxy star Landon Donovan is expected to become an Everton player in the next couple of days.

The USA international and the English club have agreed 'in principle' to a two-and-a-half month loan deal beginning in January which should be completed in the next two days.

Despite the fact Donovan signed a new four-year deal with the Galaxy on Wednesday, he is still free to seek a loan move which, according to Everton, is very close to being finalised.

"Final discussions are expected in the next 48 hours after all parties agreed in principle for the two-and-half month deal to take place," it said on the club's official website.

"A finalised deal is not too far away," said Everton chief executive Robert Elstone.

"Positive discussions have been ongoing and we expect to have Landon join the club when the window opens on 2nd January."
