Everton ace Cahill: I guess I'm just lucky

The Everton midfielder fired a last gasp equaliser in Sunday's 1-1 draw with Oman to rescue Australia from a shock defeat in their Asian Cup debut. "I have got a lot of respect for this first goal in this competition because the Asian Cup is magic," said Cahill. "I am happy being a part of this squad, I said that from day one, and as long as you can play in any shape or form on the pitch and make something happen I am happy.

"I am pretty lucky, I said to myself if I got the chance I would take it and it came against Oman and it is another big moment in my career.

"What happened for me against Oman is priceless, you can't take that away."

Australia are now joint top of Group A with Oman, Iraq and Thailand all level with the Socceroos on one point after the first round of fixtures.

Australia's next game of the tournament is against Iraq on Friday.
