Even Fergie was nervous! Mourinho admits to nerves ahead of Man Utd Premier League debut

Manchester United's Jose Mourinho has revealed he felt plenty of nerves ahead of Sunday's Premier League opener with AFC Bournemouth.

The Portuguese took charge of his first official match as United boss, guiding the team to a 3-1 win over the Cherries at the Vitality Stadium, before admitting of nervousness prior to the match.

Mourinho also touched on the fact that the great Sir Alex Ferguson held nerves before matches which kept him calm prior to his Premier League debut with the Red Devils.

"To be honest before the match a little bit, yes. But to have that feeling is normal," said Mourinho.

"The night before at the hotel was a boxing fight, I tried to go but no chance, too many people and they were too happy. So I didn't have a chance to go.

"I'll never forget one day I came to Old Trafford with Real Madrid, and before the match I was asking Sir Alex, are you still nervous? Yes.

"So I understood. Never change.

"Experience helps in many things, but always to have a little nerves is good."

Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic were all on target for the Red Devils as they kicked off the 2016/17 season with maximum points on the south coast.
