Jonny Evans has expressed his honour at being named as the new captain of West Bromwich Albion.
Darren Fletcher left West Bromwich Albion for Stoke City in a shock move earlier on in the summer and the departure of the Scotsman meant that the role of captain at the Hawthorns had been vacated.
The ex-Manchester United man said: "It's a privilege for me. It's the first time I've been captain of a club. Darren is a close friend of mine and hopefully I can follow in his footsteps and do things the right way.
"I'm sure we'll pass each other on the M6 at some point! But I think you have to be your own man and I'm sure I'll approach some things in maybe a different way to Darren. You're either that type of character or you're not and I think I've always had that sort of character, even as a young lad.
"It's the off-the-pitch things you have to take care of. We've got quite a close-knit dressing room anyway and I think everyone gets along so I don't think I'll have too many issues to worry about. But I'll be the spokesperson for the players."
