Former Liverpool boss Roy Evans is backing Sammy Lee for success at Bolton Wanderers.

"I was delighted when Sammy got the job at Bolton because he's served his time," said the ex-Anfield boss. "He's worked as an assistant, he's worked with reserves, he's worked with the England squad, he's done it all.

"I think he'll do a great job at Bolton and it's really nice to see someone coming through the ranks again and getting a chance.

"Most managers now seem to come straight from (playing) football into management and there's a lot to learn in between.

"I'd love to see him be a success because sometimes that's the way it should be."
