European football could persuade O'Brien to stay at Motherwell

Jim O'Brien admits a third successive season in Europe would be an incentive for him to sign a new deal with Motherwell. O'Brien looked set to leave Fir Park when his contract expires at the end of the campaign until Craig Brown and Archie Knox took over and helped revitalise the team and the winger himself.

The former Celtic player, who has attracted interest from Aberdeen and Hearts, said: "That's one of the reasons I came here, the incentive of playing in Europe.

"Every player wants to play at the highest level and if we get into Europe next season, that's another incentive for me to sign.

"Last year was a good experience, playing against the likes of Steaua Bucharest. If we can get there next season and go one step further, it would be excellent."

The 22 year old added: "I'm still in talks with the club. I've told the boys I'm in no rush to go anywhere.

"If somebody comes along and gives me an offer I can't refuse, it's a different story.

"The more offers the better for me, but obviously the manager and Archie are still going to be here next season so that's a massive draw.

"The way I've been playing since they came in has been excellent. I'm enjoying my football again, I'm enjoying going to training in the mornings and obviously looking forward to a Saturday."
