Europe's rating of MLS convinced Hassli to join Vancouver Whitecaps

Eric Hassli admits that Europe's rating of Major League Soccer is a very favorable one which helped him decide to come to North America's domestic league. The 29-year old French striker has joined MLS expansion franchise Vancouver Whitecaps from Swiss Super League club FC Zurich and he is looking forward to making an impression for his new club.

"I come here with humility but ambition," said Hassli through an interpreter. "I want to work with my teammates and deliver on the confidence people are hoping for me.

"I want to score goals and help win matches.

"I was interested in the change of life. Europe speaks very highly of MLS.

"It's a league that is growing. I wanted to take on the challenge of growing with the team. I think there is good ambition here, good vision."

Whitecaps president Bob Lenarduzzi said Hassli is a great capture as he will be able to provide experience and leadership on and off the pitch.

"A lot of times you are looking for your senior players to come in and do the job on the field but you are also looking for them to be good role models," Lenarduzzi said. "In a lot of cases that isn't the case. Players come in and play for themselves.

"I get the feeling (Hassli) is coming here and understands he is a significant signing for us, but also understands he needs a slew of other guys to work with him to be successful."
