EUROPA LEAGUE WRAP: Fulham crash to FC Twente but Stoke progress to knockout stage

A late goal sees Fulham’s Europa hopes hanging by a thread whilst Stoke gained a point which was enough to see them play European football in the New Year.

Fulham went down 1-0 to FC Twente in the Europa League on Thursday.

The Dutch side dominated the opening half and whilst the Cottagers improved after the break they failed to find the victory which would have sent them through to the next stage of the Europa competition.

They looked on course for at least a point until Mark Janko scored in the final minute. Fulham’s evening then got worse as Andrew Johnson was dismissed for a second yellow and will miss the final group game.

Fulham must now beat Odense in their last Group K clash to be sure of qualification for the last 32.

Stoke also left it late to grab a point against an impressive Dynamo Kiev who fully deserved their first half lead courtesy of a Matthew Upson own goal who deflected Olexandr Aliyev's low shot into his own net.

Kenwyne Jones rewarded an improved display by the Potters after the break by heading powerfully home with nine minutes remaining.

Tony Pulis will now be leading his team into the knockout stage of the competition with still one group game to play. Stoke only need a draw at Besiktas to top Group E.
