EUROPA LEAGUE Ro32: Augsburg hold Liverpool upon Klopp’s Germany return

Liverpool and Augsburg drew 0-0 at the WWK Arena on Thursday in Jurgen Klopp's return to Germany.

The Reds were unable to muster many shots on goal throughout in what was a dour night in Bavaria which had the occasion on a higher par than the game itself.

Markus Weinzierl's Augsburg produced the best chance of the first half when Simon Mignolet did well to deny Alexander Esswein on the stroke of half-time.

Daniel Sturridge was unable to hit the back of the net from six yards early in the second half when James Milner found him with a cross before Augsburg almost conceded an own-goal when goalkeeper Marwin Hitz was called upon to keep out Paul Verhaegh's deflection from a free-kick.

The closest call for the entire contest came when former Sunderland striker Ji Dong-won hit a left-footed volley into the upright with Mignolet rooted to the spot but in the end it was a fair result for the two sides who will now battle it out at Anfield in the return bout next week.
