EUROPA LEAGUE: Liverpool dispose of Villarreal to cruise into final

Liverpool are through to the 2015/16 UEFA Europa League final courtesy of a convincing 3-0 second leg victory over Villarreal for a 3-1 aggregate win.

Jurgen Klopp's Reds completely dominated the Spanish side in front of a deafening Anfield crowd to book their spot in the May 18 decider where they will take on back-to-back winners Sevilla in Basel, Switzerland.

Going into the return bout a goal down after conceding in injury-time at El Madrigal last week, Liverpool were back on level terms within seven minutes when Roberto Firmino's pass across goal, which was destined for Daniel Sturridge, bounced in off Villarreal captain Bruno, igniting the Kop end.

Visiting boss Marcelino set out with a 4-4-2 formation but the Yellow Submarine were unable to get a footing in proceedings throughout as Klopp's side bossed possession and created a plethora of chances.

Despite their dominance, the Merseyside outfit had to wait until just after the hour-mark to take an overall lead in the tie when Firmino's deflected effort fell kindly for Sturridge who needed no second invitation to expertly slot beyond Alphonse Areola.

10 minutes later, Villarreal were reduced to ten men when Victor Ruiz received a second yellow card for a late tackle in Adam Lallana on the edge of the box.

The task had then become mountainous for the visitors but not more so than after the 81st minute when Lallana made it 3-0, turning in Sturridge's skewed effort after some brilliant lead-up work from Roberto Firmino, who had driven to the byline before cutting back into a dangerous area.

Substitute Joe Allen tried to get in on the act with a late effort while Sturridge and Lallana could smell a second goal each but it ended the way it was after the third goal on what was another special night at Anfield.

It is fourth time Liverpool have made it through to the final of this competition as they look to add to the 1973, 1976 and 2001 titles in Europe's second tier.
