EUROPA LEAGUE - GROUP J: Lamela hat-trick sees Tottenham claim top

Tottenham have finished top of Group J in the Europa League courtesy of a convincing 4-1 win over Monaco on Thursday night.

A hat-trick from Erik Lamela and a late goal from Tom Carroll allowed Mauricio Pochettino's Spurs to end up three points clear of second-placed Anderlecht who accounted for Qarabag 2-1 in Belgium.

Spurs got off to a flier when Lamela opened the scoring in just the second minute when he swept home Ben Davies' cross from the left before the Argentine added a second on 15 minutes when he struck on target from the edge of the area to see Monaco keeper Daniel Subasic completely get it wrong, allowing the ball to trickle under him.

Pamela completed his treble with eight minutes remaining in the first half when he hit a first-time effort from Son Heung-min's through ball to send the North Londoners on their way.

Monaco pulled one back just after the hour-mark through Stephan El Shaarawy who produced a lovely curling effort from the edge of the box before Carroll, who had started in central midfield, rounded it out for Spurs in the 77th minute by scoring his first goal for the club with an angled effort after feigning to give it off to a teammate.

It was a comprehensive display from Tottenham who will now be seeded for Monday's Round of 32 draw following a solid group stage performance of four wins and a draw from their six fixtures.
