Reigning European champions Chelsea were pitted against Czech giants Sparta Prague as Newcastle United were given the slightly easier task of meeting Ukraine's Metalist Kharkiv.
Other big fixtures include Inter Milan versus CFR Cluj, Bayer Leverkusen versus Benfica and reigning champs Atletico Madrid versus Rubin Kazan.
The first leg ties will be played on Thursday, February 14 with the return bout the following week on February 21.
