Euromillions winner donates £750k to Partick Thistle

Euromillions winner Colin Weir has donated £750,000 to Scottish club Partick Thistle.

Weir and his wife Chris won £161million about two years ago and have decided to pump some money into the Jags to assist them in establishing a youth academy.

"As long-standing fans of Partick Thistle, we were aware of the club's ambitions to create a new youth academy," said Weir.

"What impressed us was that it wouldn't just be for elite players but would also encourage local youngsters into football for the sheer enjoyment and fun of it."

He added: "Having seen the club's determination to get this project off the ground, we decided that wanted to help them achieve their dream."

The new Thistle Weir Youth Academy, which will be run by former Jags player Gerry Britton, aims to provide a professional pathway for 120 elite youth team players at Firhill and also offer a range of football services for the local community in Maryhill.
