Euro2016: ‘We have put Welsh football on the map - Arsenal star Ramsey

Aaron Ramsey believes the Wales national team has put Welsh football on the world map.

The Dragons finished on top of Group B ahead of England and Slovakia courtesy of Monday night's dominant 3-0 win over Russia in Toulouse.

After the match, opening goalscorer Ramsey suggested that the achievement was monumental for the history of football in the British country which houses just over 3 million people, as opposed to Russia's population of just over 140 million.

"We wanted to make a statement, putting Welsh football on the map, to show what we are capable of doing and I think we have done that," the Arsenal midfielder said.

"We have shown that we are a good defensive team, but also what a good team we are in possession as well.

"We created loads of opportunities and can be proud of what we have achieved so far.

"Against England [a 2-1 loss] the occasion maybe got to us, in possession. Tonight that was what we wanted to work on the most and we passed it tremendously well. We could have scored maybe more in the end.

"Overall, fantastic performance. We topped the group, which nobody probably would have seen coming. Our main target was to get out of the group."
