EURO2016: Walters fitness a concern for Republic of Ireland

The Republic of Ireland are sweating on the fitness of Jonathan Walters who limped out of Monday's opening draw against Sweden.

The 32 year old revealed that he was in pain "after the first minute" of the Group E game in Paris as his recent Achilles problem returned.

"I was trying to run and jump and get through it to see if it settled down, but it didn't really," said Walters.

Current Republic player of the year Walters said the injury prevented him from making his normal contribution to the Irish cause at the Stade de France.

"I tried to do my part in the second half and made a few runs in behind. If I was 100%, I would have easily got on the end of a couple," added the Stoke striker.

"It's nowhere near as sore as it was when I did it just over a week ago. It was always going to be sore.

"I think the right thing was to come off and let's see how it settles down the next couple of days."
