Euro2016: This tournament will only benefit England for the future - Rooney

Wayne Rooney believes the England national team will only improve in a few year's time.

As the Three Lions prepare for their final Euro2016 Group B fixture against Slovakia in Saint-Etienne on Monday night, captain Rooney feels that the experiences from this tournament in particular will only benefit the younger players and put the country in good stead for the future.

"We've got a very good, exciting squad and I think time will tell," he said.

"I think we're not going to get judged on what happens in this tournament - I think the players have got a lot of years ahead of them and this tournament will help.

"But we're not here as a group of players for the experience, we're here to try and do well and go far.

"But I certainly think over the next few years this squad can grow into a better team, a more mature team. But at the minute, we're trying to do as well as we can and we feel we've had a good start.

"We hope we can continue that and go into the later stages of the tournament."

England currently sit top of their group with four points from two matches, one ahead of Wales who meet bottom-placed Russia, and one clear of Slovakia in third.
