Euro2016: Portugal were in ‘dire straits’ but qualification goal achieved - Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo admits Portugal's 'insane' 3-3 draw with Hungary on Wednesday may not have gone to plan.

The Real Madrid star scored twice and provided an assist for Nani as his side thrice came from trailing positions to eventually draw with the Hungarians in Lyon for a third-placed finish in Group F.

Portugal's points haul of three from three drawn matches in the group stage has seen them through to the Round of 16, which in the end, has enabled them to achieve their first goal according to captain Ronaldo.

"We played a good match, it was a little insane - Hungary scored and then Portugal scored - and it was very hot," he said in a statement at the post-match press conference.

"Personally I was happy as the team was in dire straits - three times we had to chase down the score and three times we came back.

"It's for me a privilege to be named man of the match but our priority was to win the match and we failed to do that. The bottom line is that we wanted to qualify."
