Portugal are through to the quarter-finals of Euro2016 courtesy of a dramatic 1-0 win over Croatia.
Fernando Santos' side failed to win in the group stages of the competition but have pulled one out when it matters to progress from the Round of 16 thanks to a 117th-minute winner from second-half substitute Ricardo Quaresma.
It was a fairly tame affair throughout in Lens with neither side mustering a shot on target until the second half of extra-time, when things really began to open up.
Croatia defender Domagoj Vida came closest in the 113th minute when he headed over the bar from Marcelo Brozovic's corner as Portugal keeper Rui Patricio messed up his timing.
Minutes later, Croatia were desperately unlucky not to take the lead when Ivan Perisic headed onto the upright before Portugal whizzed it down the other end for the only goal of the contest.
Renato Sanches made a strong run into the area before playing it out to the left for Nani who managed to find Cristiano Ronaldo on the right side of the box. The Portugal captain forced a quality save from Danijel Subasic with the ball falling kindly for Quaresma who was on hand to nod home into the back of an empty net.
Croatia then had one final chance to take it to penalties when the ball dropped menacingly for Vida whose hooked left-footed volley flew inches wide of the target in what ended up a disastrous night for Ante Cacic's side who had looked so impressive when beating Spain in their final group stage game.
Portugal will now head to Marseille to take on Poland in the final eight as an unlucky Croatia pack their bags to return home from what looked an extremely promising tournament only days ago.
