Euro2016: England squad has never questioned Man City winger Sterling

Wayne Rooney has played down claims that the England squad is worried about the state of mind of Raheem Sterling.

The Manchester City winger has attracted an enormous amount of negativity for his less than inspiring performances for the Three Lions at Euro2016.

Recent reports suggested that Sterling was struggling to come to terms with the criticism directed his way on various forms of social media but England skipper Rooney has played down suggestions the 21-year-old has become a worry for the rest of the players.

"For me, what I've seen, his state of mind is fine," Rooney said. "He's been normal around the camp and what we've seen on the training pitch is Raheem Sterling.

"He's been fantastic, sharp, taking players on and scoring goals. There's no issue with Raheem whatsoever - his attitude has never been questioned in training.

"He works hard, he stays behind after training. He's a huge asset to us because he's a fantastic player and someone who can turn a game in a split second.

"If anyone is questioning his attitude or his state of mind they would be mistaken."
