Euro2016: England boss plays down rift between Rooney and Vardy

Roy Hodgson says there is no truth to the rumours that Wayne Rooney and Jamie Vardy have had a falling out.

There have been suggestions that England captain Rooney approached Vardy about his wife Rebekah's activity on Twitter in the lead-up to the Round of 16 clash with Iceland on Monday.

Some reports suggest there has been a rift between the pair but Three Lions boss Hodgson has rubbished that speculation.

"I haven't got a clue what you are referring to," said the England boss.

"There are absolutely no problems in football terms between Wayne Rooney and Jamie Vardy, in fact quite the reverse, they are very close friends, both on the field and off the field.

"I have got no idea what you are referring to and I certainly would advise Wayne to give no comment to it, because it is obviously one salacious story that someone has managed to spin.

"It is of no interest to us."
