Eto'o prowess in front of goal pleases Chelsea's Mourinho

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho admits he made a team selection call dependent on how he thought Manchester United would play on Sunday.

Mourinho started Samuel Eto'o in front of Fernando Torres and it paid dividends as the Cameroonian ace scored a hat-trick in the Blues' 3-1 home win over Manchester United.

The Portuguese admitted that Eto'o's ability in front of goal led to him being picked ahead of Torres who has vastly different attributes.

"I had a strong team physically, the people at the back and David [Luiz] in front of them," he told Sky Sports. "And then I had the creative players and I wanted the movement around the box.

"Some of Samuel's quality around the box, and Fernando is more about pace, about power and space, I was feeling today that United was trying to be compact and press us.

"I needed a player like Samuel and he works well for us, the same as Fernando."
