Etherington yet to sign new Stoke deal

Stoke City winger Matthew Etherington has not yet signed a new deal with the club but has reiterated his commitment to the Potters.

The 28-year old has been in brilliant form this season but admits negotiations regarding a new deal are not going as planned although he is happy to remain at the Britannia Stadium.

"I don't want to go too much into it [new contract] because it's a bit of a sticky situation," he told the Stoke Sentinel.

"But I'm happy with my form and happy at the football club."

Etherington has emerged as a World Cup bolter because of his good form but said he was not getting to caught up in that talk as the England squad has many quality players.

"My form now has got to be up there with the best of my career," he added. "In my first season at West Ham, albeit in the Championship, I played quite well and was Hammer of the year.

"I'm not going to get my hopes up and get above myself. If I keep doing well for Stoke City, you never know, but it's a long shot.

"There's four or five great players in my position like Joe Cole and Steven Gerrard - and they're all top, top players."
