Etherington: Stoke players excited by Hughes methods

Stoke City winger Matthew Etherington is enjoying playing for manager Mark Hughes.

The 32-year-old winger believes all players have embraced the more attacking mentality Hughes, below, brought in with him when he replaced Tony Pulis as Stoke City manager in the summer.

"It's been brilliant," he declared to The Sentinel.

"I speak for every one of the lads when I say everyone is buying into what the manager is trying to implement here and everyone is looking forward to the season ahead.

"Sure, at Liverpool last weekend there were times when Glen Johnson bombs right on and I still ended up having to play more as an auxiliary left-back at times.

"You have to accept that sometimes as a wide player when top full-backs push on, and I'm more than happy to do that part of the game.

"But the manager wants us to be more offensive this year, and over the next few weeks hopefully I will have a chance to put that into action.

"It's a big game against Palace. It's imperative we pick up early points, and if we play like we did at Liverpool in certain areas of the game, and even improve, then I'm sure we will."
