Ethan Ampadu 'proud and happy' with new Chelsea contract

Ethan Ampadu has signed a new deal with Chelsea.

The 18-year-old, who joined the Blues from Exeter in 2017 - having made his senior debut for the south west club as a 15-year-old - has signed a new deal until 2023.

"I'm really proud and happy," said Ampadu, speaking to Chelsea's official website.

"I'm looking forward to the next five years and all I have got to do now is continue to work hard, and hopefully good things will happen.'

Equally comfortable at centre-half of in midfield, Ampadu has impressed manager Maurizio Sarri, with the Italian describing him as the "future" of the club.

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia added: "Ethan has shown great potential and unbelievable maturity since arriving at Chelsea a year ago.

"In this short time he convinced a lot of people with his exceptional quality and mentality and we look forward to watching him develop into a key player for the club over the coming years."
