ESPN drop MLS primetime Thursday

ESPN have announced they will no longer have dedicated Thursday primetime slots for Major League Soccer. MLS games are planned to be shown on Thursdays, Saturdays, Wednesdays, or Fridays.

"We didn't see the kind of ratings climb we'd like to, so we're trying something different," ESPN VP of programming Scott Guglielmino told Sports Business Journal.

MLS spokesperson Dan Courtemanche, responding specifically to the Saturday games move, said: "We feel we can provide a much larger crowd and a much more festive atmosphere for the viewer. That should translate to better ratings."
